Trolleys Are Back in Richmond

After 62 years trolleys are back in Richmond. Electric trolleys that were put into service in 1888 were put to rest in 1949. They were led in a possession to Highland Park and burned in a ceremony. Then buses buses took over the routes once run by the trolleys. So, Richmond has been trolleyless until now.

Two entrepreneurs, Buck Ward and his business partner John Moulton are launching the trolleys in a new venture called Experience Richmond. Tourists and locals have the opportunity to see and experience the Richmond in a different way.

Ward recently purchases five trolleys at $80,000 each. Three of them are enclosed and two are open air. One is handicapped accessible. The trolleys will run twice a day; at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. seven days a week. The first tour will be the Christmas lights tour on December 1. Standard tours will cost $25.

Richmond Trolley Company's website says the company is very excited to offer tours of Richmond’s historic places, sights and sounds from the comfort of our enclosed or open-air trolleys.
